Six weeks ago I ran a marathon; today I struggled to run 5 miles. If anything sums up my running year, it’s this. As 2019 draws to a close it’s time to review, reassess and plan for a more successful and consistent 2020.
Comments closedThe final three days of my Brathay 10in10 journey all passed in something of a blur. And sitting here, experiencing a maelstrom of emotions, it’s a little difficult to draw out specific details to share with you. Days 8 and 9 very much followed the pattern of Day 7.
Comments closedSeven marathons in seven days. So just a triple to think about now! The good Day 7 was sunny and bright – and so was I. I felt relaxed from the start and was feeling the benefits of the 4+ hours of physio I’d suffered the day before. With no…
Comments closedSo that’s it. Halfway. 131 miles and 8,500 ft of climb covered over the last five days. All I need to do is do it all again! The last two days have been a challenge – in particular because of the weather. On Day 4 (Monday) we woke to heavy…
1 CommentThat’s much more like it. I’m back in the game. Today the sun shone, and I managed my first pain free run around the Lake. It felt good too. A nice relaxed first 12.5 miles down to Newby Bridge saw me running like myself for the first time this week.…
Comments closedWell, we are underway, and it was a fantastic start to the 2017 Brathay 10in10 this morning. After months of preparation and fundraising…

Comments closedIt’s almost time. The serious training is done. The last fundraising event is coming up in a couple of days. My kit (enough for a month-long expedition!) is washed and sorted, if not quite packed yet. And I’ve just a few days left at work. After a journey that has taken nearly a year it’s now only seven days until the start of the 2017 Brathay 10in10. And I feel terrible…
Comments closedThe January training weekend forms a key component of the Brathay 10in10 experience. The opportunity to meet the other sixteen runners fortunate (and crazy) enough to have been selected for Team 2017. Sharing stories of running, training plans, fundraising successes and failures. Understanding how to prepare in the right way. Learning more about Brathay Trust and its work with vulnerable young people. And yes, the opportunity to run the hilly and undulating course around Lake Windermere in the stunning Lake District.
