As I finished my last run of 2016 I was able to reflect a little on my running experiences of the last twelve months. My attempt to run all six world marathon majors (the timmyslam) may have dominated my running calendar this year, but there were plenty of other great experiences and achievements too.

Boston marathon 2016
Running the Boston marathon is a dream for many runners, and the pinnacle of their running achievements for many others. But what is it about this race that makes it such an iconic event. Is it because at 120 years it is the world’s oldest annual marathon? Is it the picturesque course that takes you from Hopkinton in eastern Massachusetts into the centre of Boston?

Tokyo marathon 2016
Tokyo is a fascinating city to visit and it was a privilege to find myself running in the 10th Tokyo marathon on 28 February 2016. Distance running is an obsession in Japan, and it was no surprise to find a city in such anticipation ahead of the race.
